basan Germany acquires basan Benelux

[19.01.2007]

As of December 28, 2006, Jacobus C. Bartels – proprietor of basan GmbH Germany – has acquired the shares of his brother Olaf Bartels in basan Nederland b.v. and basan Belgium bvba.

basan took this step to meet the demands of an increasingly global market. Through unified structures and the resulting optimization of the cost situation, the successful development of the European business – particularly in the interest of the company's customers – will be further advanced.

The Bartels family looks back on a success story that has endured for more than 40 years. Back in 1966, Jan Bartels – father of Olaf and Jacobus – became interested in the topic of "cleanroom" and in 1976 founded a company in Holland that sold dust binding wipers and strippable paints, the first products that were used in painting plants for the automotive industry. With technological advancements in other industries and the increasing miniaturization in microelectronics, the demand for special cleanroom materials increased, in order to reduce or even prevent contamination in the cleanroom and in adjacent areas, such as changing rooms, air showers, etc.

This growing demand for cleanroom products led to the establishment in 1982 of basan GmbH in Germany by Jacobus C. Bartels and of basan Nederland b.v. by Olaf Bartels. In 1989, a further subsidiary was established in Belgium, followed by distribution partnerships in Switzerland, Rumania, Austria and Singapore in the years that followed. Within the context of a consistent growth and expansion strategy, a subsidiary was established in Great Britain in the year 2003.

In the course of 25 years, basan developed from a "one-man show" to the leading commercial enterprise for cleanroom products in Europe, with a comprehensive range of products for cleanrooms and controlled production environments, in addition to diverse product-related services.

The acquisition of the Benelux organization is a valuable contribution to maintaining the continuity and reliability of basan, to the benefit of customers and business partners at home and abroad.
