Permanent mats and special flooring are indispensable for the prevention of contamination in cleanroom environments.

In many cases, however, a single peel-off mat - installed in front of the air lock area - is the only protective measure against contamination.

The fact is frequently overlooked that peel-off mats are intended merely as a pre-cleaning measure. Only a permanent flooring that is cleaned at regular intervals can effectively bind the particles adhering to the soles of shoes and trolley wheels. More than 99% of the contamination carried by people and transport equipment into the production environment can thus be prevented.

The most common reason given for the use of peel-off mats is the price.

But if we take a close look at a calculation over a period of 3-4 years, it becomes obvious that the requirement for a one-year supply of peel-off mats (approx. 30 boxes with 8 mats each) corresponds roughly to the investment in a DYCEM floor covering with an area of 10 sq. metres.

Assuming that a floor covering has a life of 3-4 years, the potential for savings during this period is 13,000 - 18,000 Euros as compared with the use of peel-off mats.
